Members of 100 Women Who Care Jasper County selected the JCCU #1 Mentoring Program as the recipient of the $5,850 contribution collected at its second membership meeting of 2018 on September 13 at the Peoples State Bank Community Room, located at the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce.
The mentoring program matches community volunteers with students in kindergarten through high school. There are currently 37 mentors in the school district. The mentors come to school once a week and meet with their student. They eat lunch with them, play games, take walks or just spend time talking. Mentors act as role models for the students they meet with. The giving circle’s contribution will be used to host special events throughout the year for the mentor and mentee to attend together, other needed materials for the program, and provide resources for parents of the students in the program.
100 Women Who Care Jasper County, a program of Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation, will make one more contribution in 2018. New members may join at any time throughout the year. The amount of money contributed will increase as new members join. Members commit to donating $400 annually. The first $100 supports the Jasper County Community Endowment that will be used to serve future needs for years to come. The remaining $300 is used to support the three Jasper County nonprofits selected by the members throughout the year ($100 at each meeting). A reduced cost membership is available to younger members at $200 annually ($50 for membership dues; $50 per meeting).
100 Women Who Care Jasper County will hold its next meeting on November 1 at 6 p.m. (registration will open at 5 p.m.). Those interested in joining can contact Amanda Lessley at 217.342.5409 or amanda@enrichingourcommunity.org to receive a new member information packet.
