Members of 100 Women Who Care Jasper County met with Lee and Sue Volk and Nancy and Ken Joslyn, representatives of Compassionate Friends, to present a check for $6,250 from the July meeting of 100 Women Who Care Jasper County.

Members of 100 Women Who Care Jasper County chose Compassionate Friends of Newton as the recipient of its $6,250 contribution during its meeting on July 14 at Parklanes Bowling Alley in Newton.

Compassionate Friends is an organization committed to helping bereaved parents and grandparents who have lost a child or grandchild. The Newton chapter of Compassionate Friends meets once a month at Scott Avenue Christian Church. Sue Volk, a member of 100 Women Who Care Jasper County, is involved with Compassionate Friends and made the nomination. Debbie Diel, a friend of Volk’s, represented Compassionate Friends during the meeting.

100 Women Who Care Jasper County, a program of Jasper County Community Foundation, will make one more contribution in 2016. The amount of money available will increase as new members join. Members commit to donating $400 annually. The first $100 supports the Jasper County Community Foundation Endowment Fund that will be used to serve future needs for years to come. The remaining $300 is used to support the three nonprofits selected by the members throughout the year ($100 at each meeting). A reduced cost membership is available to younger members at $200 annually ($50 for membership dues; $50 per meeting).

100 Women Who Care Jasper County will hold its next meeting on Thursday, October 13 at 6 p.m. (registration will open at 5 p.m.). Those interested in joining can contact Amanda Lessley at 217-342-5409 or amanda@enrichingourcommunity.org to receive a new member information packet.
