The Mattoon Area Community Foundation is pleased to announce that the 2011 Mike James Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to Mason Hayes of Mattoon. Mason is the son of Richard and Amy Hayes of Mattoon. Mason will be attending Southern Illinois University in Carbondale this fall. He will receive a $2,000 scholarship towards his college education while attending SIU.
The Mike James Memorial Scholarship is one of the several scholarships administered by the Mattoon Area Community Foundation. The scholarship fund was established in 2002 by Mattoon resident Lorri James-Dutton in honor of her late husband. The scholarship is awarded to a Mattoon High School senior football player and the recipients are voted on by a selection committee each year.
