2012 Mattoon High School Alumni Scholarship Applications Available

The Mattoon High School Alumni Scholarship is pleased to announce $2,500 in scholarships for Mattoon High School graduates.

The Mattoon High School Alumni Scholarship Fund was created in 2011 for the purpose of offering Mattoon High School graduates the opportunity to further their education with a local scholarship. In its first year the fund has raised over $51,000, has 71 founding charter members and represents donors from 38 different Mattoon High School classes from 1944-2010. The scholarship committee has a goal of 100 charter members.

In its first year, the fund will distribute a $1,000 scholarship in honor of the Florence Parker Fund, a donor advised fund managed by the community foundation that provided a challenge match to the scholarship committee that resulted in a gift of $20,000 to the scholarship fund. In addition, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduate attending Eastern Illinois University and a $500 for a graduate attending Lake Land College.

“I believe this scholarship program is an excellent way for us to invest, attract and retain the next generation of future leaders and philanthropists in Coles County,” said David Janssen, co-founder of the Mattoon High School Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Applications for the scholarship are now available at the Mattoon High School guidance office or by visiting www.enrichingourcommunity.org under “Mattoon Area” and “Scholarships”.
