The Mattoon Area Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Jacob Gates was awarded the 2012 Mike James Memorial Scholarship during Mattoon High School Honors Night. Jacob is the son of Jeff Gates and Becky Gates of Mattoon. Jacob will be attending Milliken University in the fall and majoring in Athletic Training. He will receive $2,000 over the next 4 years towards his college education while attending Milliken.
The Mike James Memorial Scholarship is one of the several scholarships administered by the Mattoon Area Community Foundation. The scholarship fund was established in 2002 by Mattoon resident Lorri James-Dutton in honor of her late husband. The scholarship is awarded to a Mattoon High School senior football player and the recipients are voted on by a selection committee each year.
