The Effingham County Community Foundation recently announced $17,000 in grants this year to assist nonprofit organizations in efforts related to visual arts, youth initiatives, workforce development, child care and early childhood education, and land use and protection.
This year’s grant areas are slightly different from the past according to the foundation’s Program Director, Amanda Standerfer. “The grants have a more narrow focus in the unrestricted grant program this year using the issues that the Communityworks initiative has focused on for the past 5 years,” said Standerfer. The issue areas for the unrestricted grants are workforce development, child care and early childhood education, and land use and protection.
Distributing charitable funds is a vital part of the mission of the Effingham County Community Foundation. Since 1999, grants totaling over $600,000 have been awarded to charitable organizations throughout Effingham County.
This year’s grant recipients are:
Bill and Jacquelyn Jordan Anderson Fund for Visual Arts: Dr. Charles M Wright House NFP ($1,600) and the Helen Matthes Library on behalf of the Effingham Artisan Fair ($1,600).
Bill and Jacquelyn Jordan Anderson Fund for Youth: Altamont Community Unit School District #10 ($1,600) and CASA of Effingham County ($1,600).
Teutopolis State Bank Designated Fund: Teutopolis Fire Protection District ($600).
Unrestricted grants: Effingham Community Unit #40 Mentoring Program ($2,500), Effingham Child Development Center ($6,000), and Helen Matthes Library ($1,500).
