The Effingham County Community Foundation recently named Tiffany Beccue and Maria Carrillo-Quijano as the 2015 recipients of the Diane Siemer GED (General Equivalency Diploma) Scholarship. This is the second year both recipients received the scholarship.
Beccue received her GED in April 2012 and will be receiving a $2,500 scholarship to attend Lake Land College and is enrolled in the LPN program.
Carrillo-Quijano received her GED in September 2013 and will be receiving a $2,500 scholarship to attend Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and plans to continue her education in the nursing program.
The Diane Siemer Scholarship Fund was established by Diane’s family in honor of her long career in education working with individuals to earn their high school diploma by completing the GED test. The purpose of the Diane Siemer Scholarship Fund is to perpetuate higher educational opportunities by providing scholarships to GED graduates in Effingham County.
Qualified applicants for this annual scholarship must have received a General GED certificate within the last five years and reside in Effingham County. The scholarship is available to students who plan to attend a two year, four year college or university or vocational/technical school, however, preference will be given to students planning to attend Lake Land College in Mattoon, Illinois.
