Three recipients recently selected for the 2013 Roy Robson & Roma Jackson Nursing Scholarship. The scholarship was created by Roy Robson and Roma Jackson in memory of their sister Mary Robson. Roy and his sister Roma, saw first hand the need for skilled nurses to care for their sister May, who was diabetic and required a good deal of nursing care during her lifetime.
This year’s recipients include: Monica Lin, a 2010 graduate of St. Anthony High School, received a $1,000 scholarship as she pursues a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; Emily Ruholl, a 2010 graduate of Teutopolis High School, received a $2,000 scholarship as she pursues a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at St. John’s College in Springfield, IL; and Brittany Zacha, a 2008 graduate of Beecher City High School, received a $2,000 scholarship and will be attending Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where she is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Nursing.
Graduates of any Effingham County high school seeking a degree in nursing are eligible to apply for the scholarship. The selection criteria is based on 25% academic information and ranking; 25% financial need; 40% written essay describing educational and career goals; and 10% letter of reference from an instructor who can assess the applicants’ ability to achieve his/her educational and career goals.
