Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation President and CEO, Joedy Hightower, announced the awards of $44,100 in grants from the Effingham County Community Foundation to fifteen Effingham County nonprofits at a grant reception held at the Fairfield Inn and Suites on Thursday, September 23, 2011.
Grants to these Effingham County nonprofits were awarded from six different funds. The awards were based on request proposals submitted in May of this year. Each fund requires recipients to meet certain guidelines and detail how they would use the grant monies.
Funds from the Bill and Jacquelyn Jordan Anderson Fund for Visual Arts were awarded to benefit the arts in Effingham County. Recipients of grants from this fund and their respective grant awards include: Dieterich Community Civic Center ($300), Effingham Art Guild ($2,000), Effingham Artisan Fair ($1,200), and Dr. Charles M. Wright House NFP ($1,000).

The Bill and Jacquelyn Jordan Anderson Fund for Youth and the Effingham County Community Foundation Unrestricted Fund each contributed grants to benefit the youth of Effingham County. Recipients of grants from these two funds and their respective grant award include: CASA of Effingham County ($4,000), Mid-Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters ($3,000).

Siemer Milling Funds were awarded to Effingham County 4-H Youth Ambassadors ($3,300) to support the development of young leaders, specifically the Prescription Pill and Drug Disposal program.

The Dr. Peter and Milla Kollinger Family Fund and the Effingham County Community Foundation Unrestricted Fund contributed grants to provide support to charitable organizations in the areas of medicine, public library or education. The recipient of these funds is Immanuel Lutheran Church’s after school program ($3,500).

Teutopolis State Bank Funds were awarded to CEFS Economic Opportunity Corporation ($800) to support projects that benefit the Teutopolis community, specifically to support the Teutopolis Park District programs.

The Effingham County Community Foundation Unrestricted Funds were awarded to benefit programs in three distinct areas: Workforce Development, Early Childhood Education and Child Care, and Land Use and Protection. Recipients of grants from this fund and their respective grant award include: Effingham Child Development Center ($7,000), Effingham Vision 2020 Education Spoke ($4,000), Trails Recreation Effingham County (TREC) ($3,000), Dieterich Community Civic Center ($4,000), Greater Effingham Chamber of Commerce & Industry BEST Center ($4,000), and ARC Community Support Systems ($3,000).
