The Mattoon Area Community Foundation is pleased to announce that applications for the 2010 Michael Alan Fuller II Memorial Scholarship are available. The scholarship has been made possible by donations from friends and family of Alan and from the annual BigAl Classic Golf Outing. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist a 2010 graduate of Mattoon High School continue his/her education.
Mike and Carol Fuller, parents of Alan, wish to keep their son’s spirit alive by awarding scholarships each year. Alan’s love of life and his desire to help others continue through this memorial fund.
Applicants must submit an application form, which can be found on the community foundation’s Website. Along with the original and one copy of this form, applicants must have three letters of reference and three character references. An essay describing their own character is also a component of the application. A picture of the applicant should be included with the application as well. Applications are due by April 5, 2010 and the scholarships will be awarded at the Mattoon High School awards night. Scholarship recipients should also plan to attend the BigAl Golf Classic, which will be held on August 21, 2010 at 1:00 p.m.
In 2010, a total of seven scholarships will be awarded; three in the amount of $1,000 and four in the amount of $500. Scholarships are paid directly to the educational institution that the recipient plans to attend towards an undergraduate degree. Recipients must be enrolled full-time (12 hours or equivalent) to receive the scholarship.
