Jim and Kathy Schroeder made their first contribution to benefit patients of Crossroads Cancer Center to honor the request of their daughter LeAnn Schroeder Hardiek. The couple delivered 14 gift cards to purchase toys for children whose parents are undergoing cancer treatments.
LeAnn was a 29-year old mother of two young boys when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer. Upon that diagnosis, the Effingham community rallied their support around her and her two young sons. The boys were often given toys and other items to keep them occupied during their mom’s hospital stays. The generosity towards her sons inspired LeAnn to give back to her community in the same way. Although LeAnn passed away in April 2015, LeAnn’s father Jim and stepmother Kathy established the LeAnn Schroeder Hardiek Friendship Endowment with Effingham County Community Foundation to fulfill LeAnn’s desire.
The LeAnn Schroeder Hardiek Friendship Endowment provides cancer patients with gift cards for their young children (age 18 and under). All gift cards will be purchased from local businesses and will be distributed by the Crossroads Cancer Center staff. Donations may be made to the LeAnn Schroeder Hardiek Fund by sending checks to Effingham County Community Foundation, PO Box 1211, Effingham, IL 62401 (include LeAnn Schroeder Hardiek Friendship Fund in the memo) or online.
