Although they occur annually, nonprofit board elections can sneak up on nonprofit staff and lead to a last-minute lack of planning and less-than-ideal board replacements.
The most effective boards consist of members who are deeply committed to the organization’s mission, bring expertise in key areas of leadership and represent diverse points of view to benefit the organization. With careful planning, these boards can evolve over time and transitions can be seamless. Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation is partnering with Forefront to offer “How to Build the Best Board,” providing nonprofit leaders with strategies to build a better board including recruitment, orientation, education and evaluation of new board members.
How to Build the Best Board is Thursday, September 20 from 1-3 p.m. at Dieterich Bank Corporate Center (300 Sur Woods Drive, Effingham). The cost of this event is $15 for Forefront members ($25 for non-members).
