Mattoon High School Alumni Scholarship Awards $12,500 to MHS Graduates

A total of $12,500 was awarded to 13 Mattoon High School seniors were awarded the Mattoon High School Alumni Scholarship during the recent senior awards ceremony.

Delaney Kimberlin was named the inaugural recipient of the $1,000 Angela McQueen Citizenship Award. Delaney will attend Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to study special education. The Angela McQueen Citizenship Award has been made possible by contributions made to the Mattoon High School Alumni Scholarship Fund on March 22, 2018. The MHS Alumni Scholarship Giving Day was held to raise money in honor of Angela McQueen for her heroism in subduing a school shooter on September 20, 2017. Angela selected Delaney from among the applicants and presented her with the award during the ceremony.

Payton Beck received a $1,000 scholarship, sponsored by the Helen K. Janssen Family, to study mechanical engineering at Rose-Holman Institute of Technology.

McClain Homann is the recipient of a $1,500 H. Carl Etchason Teacher Education Scholarship. He plans to attend Eastern Illinois University to study English education.

Brody Shook received a $1500 H. Carl Etchason Teacher Education Scholarship. He plans to attend University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to study graphic design.

Alexa Kimberlin received a $1,000 scholarship, sponsored by First Mid-Illinois Bank and Trust. She plans to attend Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to study psychology.

Madison Taylor received $1,000 scholarship sponsored by First Mid-Illinois Bank and Trust to attend Missouri State University to study cellular and molecular biology.

Ashlyn MacDonald received the $500 Lloyd Ring Memorial Scholarship. She will attend Lake Land College to study criminal justice.

Shelby Mahaney is the recipient of the $2,000 Florence Parker Family Scholarship to attend Stephens College and study biology.

Katie Auer is the recipient of a $500 scholarship toward her degree in biology/pre-medicine.

Cayden Collings received a $500 scholarship to study nursing at Lewis and Clark Community College.

Jessica Nichols received a $500 scholarship to attend Eastern Illinois University. She plans to study physical therapy.

Avery Risinger received a $1,000 scholarship to attend Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to study pharmacy.

Henry Skocy received $500 to attend The University of Notre Dame to study biochemistry.

The Mattoon High School Alumni Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance for Mattoon High School seniors and graduates pursuing higher education. Donations from individuals, alumni, classes and the community contribute to an endowed fund which continues to grow and provide scholarships into perpetuity.
