Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation is pleased to announce that 14 Mattoon High school seniors have been named recipients of the 2019 MHS Alumni Scholarship. A total of $13,500 has been awarded to the following students:
Connor Barnes received a $1,000 scholarship, sponsored by First Mid Bank and Trust. He plans to attend University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to study chemical engineering.
Barbara Barquin received the $500 Lloyd Ring Memorial Scholarship. She plans to attend Lake Land College to obtain a degree in nursing.
Annabelle Becker is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship, sponsored by the Florence Parker Family. She plans to enter the pre-veterinarian program at Illinois State University.
Andrew Cox received a $1,000 scholarship, sponsored by the Helen K. Janssen Family. He plans to attend Lake Land College to study business.
Gracie Dow received a $1,000 scholarship, sponsored by the Florence Parker Family. She plans to study elementary education at Eastern Illinois University.
Chyna Edwards received a $1,000 scholarship, sponsored by First Mid Bank and Trust. She plans to study pre-medicine at Eastern Illinois University.
Hannah Rose Retzer received the second annual $1,000 Angela McQueen Citizenship Award. She plans to attend Greenville University to study elementary education.
Katherine Shamdin received the $1,500 H. Carl Etchason Teacher Education Scholarship. She plans to attend University of Iowa to study dance.
Zachary Smith also received the $1,500 H. Carl Etachson Teacher Education Scholarship. He plans to attend Millikin University to study music education.
Abigail Allen is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship. She plants to attend University of South Florida to study animal biology.
Grace Bowen received a $1,000 scholarship. She plans to attend University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to study global security.
Maia Huddleston received a $1,000 scholarship to attend Illinois State University. She plans to study mass media.
Morgan Otto is the recipient of a $500 scholarship to attend Lake Land College. She plans to obtain a nursing degree.
Tucker Overton received a $500 scholarship. He plans to attend Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to study computer science.
The Mattoon High School Alumni Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance for Mattoon High School seniors pursuing higher education. Donations from individuals, alumni, classes and the community contribute to an endowed fund which continues to grow and provide scholarships into perpetuity.
