The Mattoon High School Alumni Scholarship Fund provides assistance for Mattoon High School seniors and graduates pursuing higher education. The scholarship was created in 2011 with the leadership of David Janssen, Class of 1971. Donations from individuals, alumni, classes and the community contribute to an endowed fund which continues to grow and provide scholarships into perpetuity.
Karlie Lading received a $1,000 scholarship to attend Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Lading plans to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. This scholarship is made in honor of the Florence Parker Fund, a donor-advised fund managed by the Mattoon Area Community Foundation that provided a challenge match to the MHS Alumni scholarship committee.
Macie Drum received a $500 scholarship to attend Eastern Illinois University, where she plans to earn an Associates Degree in graphic design. This scholarship is made in honor of the Helen K. Janssen Family.
Sydney Edwards received a $1,000 scholarship in honor of the William Hamel Jr. Family. She will be attending Eastern Illinois University, where she plans to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing.
Elizabeth Bradbury received a $1,000 scholarship and will be attending University of Illinois, Champaign, where she plans to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science and apply for graduate studies in large animal Veterinary Medicine.
Alexandria Betts received a $500 scholarship and will be attending Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Betts aspires to become a missionary educator after receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in English language teaching in the global classroom.
