The Mattoon Area Community Foundation is pleased to announce that the 2009 Michael Alan Fuller II Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to Jordan Miller and Alex Williams both of Mattoon. Ms. Miller is the daughter of Dave and Peggy Miller. She was involved with softball, tennis, National Honors Society, Key Club, and Student Council at Mattoon High School. She plans to attend Illinois State University to major in business and also study agricultural medicine. Mr. Williams is the son of Jerry and Renee Williams. He participated in sports while at Mattoon High School. He plans to attend Eastern Illinois University. Miller and Williams will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.
The Michael Alan Fuller II Memorial Scholarship is one of the several scholarships administered by the Mattoon Area Community Foundation. The scholarship fund was established in memory of Alan Fuller who was killed in a single-car accident in 2004. His family, Mike and Carol Fuller and Rachelle Fuller, organize the Big Al Golf Classic each year to raise money for the scholarship fund.
To qualify for the Michael Alan Fuller II Memorial Scholarship, applications must be a graduating senior of Mattoon High school and must be continuing his/her education in a college or university in full-time pursuit of an undergraduate degree. Applicants are required to submit character references and write an essay about their character. The scholarship was announced at the Mattoon High School Awards Night.
