The Mattoon Area Community Foundation is pleased to announce that the 2009 Mike James Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to Cody Gass of Mattoon. Cody is the son of Stacey and Timmie Taylor and Craig and Julie Fessel. He plans to attend Eastern Illinois University. Gass will receive a $2,000 scholarship while attending EIU.
The Mike James Memorial Scholarship is one of the several scholarships administered by the Mattoon Area Community Foundation. The scholarship fund was established in 2002 by Mattoon resident Lorri James Denton in honor of her late husband. The scholarship is awarded to a Mattoon High School senior football player and the recipients are voted on by a selection committee each year. The scholarship was announced at the Mattoon High School Awards Night.
