The Siemer Milling Company Endowment Fund has selected Oneighty as the recipient of a $13,000 grant for youth leadership development. The funds will be used to cover programming costs for the 2015-2016 school year such as music equipment, games, art supplies and other related projects that will help students learn and grow outside of school. A portion of the grant will also be used as a stipend for an intern to support the Oneighty staff.
Oneighty, located in Effingham, is “dedicated to building relationships with students, strengthening character and changing lives.” It is an organization in which students learn from each other as well as adult volunteers in the areas of leadership, audio production, music, art, and communication. Oneighty hosts events throughout the year for students from 5th to 12th grade (ages 11-18). It is estimated that 1,500 to 2,000 students attend a Oneighty event throughout the school year.
The Siemer Milling Company Endowment Fund was established in 2006 for the purpose of providing a permanent source of funding to programs in Effingham County that support the development of young leaders. To date, the Siemer Milling Company Endowment Fund has awarded $63,800 to non-profit organizations in Effingham County.
