Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation honored Richard E. and Angie Workman (pictured left), as the 2013 recipients of the Richard C. Siemer Outstanding Philanthropist Award. This annual award recognizes those who have shown remarkable commitment to his or her community by offering philanthropic support and demonstrating exceptional leadership.
While operating as Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Heartland Dental Care, Dr. Workman has shown great dedication to local and surrounding communities through an extensive history of charitable assistance. He has supported a number of non-for-profit institutions and other organizations, including Effingham County Community Foundation, Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation, Clay City Excellence in Education Program, Effingham Performance Center, Catholic Charities, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Effingham Country Club and Free Dentistry Days held both locally and nationwide.
Richard and Angie Workman made a generous $5 million donation in December of 2012 that regenerated a grassroots community effort to build a sports complex in Effingham that had failed several times in the past. Preparations for the construction of the Richard E. Workman Sports and Wellness Complex are now in full swing, following a community campaign raising over $3 million and Workman pitching in another $1 million. Effingham Park District, who will oversee the facility help finance construction costs, is planning a groundbreaking on September 19, 2014.
“Growing up in this area myself, I’m thrilled to continually give back to this wonderful community. The people who live and work in this area are hard-working, honest, friendly and industrious. They are the perfect people to live and work with,” explained Dr. Workman. “I’m truly honored and humbled to be in a position where I can help so many.”
