Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois have received a $5,000 grant from the Siemer Milling Company Endowment Fund to support the Girl Scout Leadership Experience for Effingham County Girl Scout members. It is estimated that 225 girls, ages 5-17, will benefit from this grant. The money will be used to provide financial assistance to cover membership expenses for girls who cannot afford them. It will also cover the cost of outdoor recreation equipment for Girl Scout retreats at Camp Wassatoga. Additionally, Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois will use a portion of this funding to cover the cost of First Aid and CPR instructor certification for a volunteer with the Effingham County Girl Scouts. This will allow local Girl Scouts to learn these life-saving techniques from a leader within their organization.
The Siemer Milling Company Endowment Fund was established in 2006 for the purpose of providing a permanent source of funding to programs in Effingham County that support the development of young leaders. To date, the Siemer Milling Company Endowment Fund has awarded $63,800 to non-profit organizations in Effingham County.
The Effingham County chapter of the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois also received a $1,500 grant from the Bill and Jacquelyn Jordan Anderson Fund for Youth. This grant supports youth programs in Effingham County.
The Siemer Milling Company Endowment Fund and the Bill and Jacquelyn Jordan Anderson Fund for Youth are two of the many grant-making funds managed by the Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation.
