Effingham Child Development Center received a $5,000 grant from the Siemer Milling Endowment for its “Lights on Afterschool” and summer camp programs for children age 5 to 13.
Children participating in the “Lights on After School” program receive nutritious meals/snacks as well as homework assistance and tutoring. The school-age summer camp program activities include swimming at the Effingham Area Kluthe Memorial Pool, access to numerous outdoor activities, meals and snacks.
The Effingham Child Development Center opened in 1972 and is the only non-for-profit day care center in Effingham serving children ages six weeks to 13 years. The center focuses on helping families and children rise above their challenges, such as; single parent homes, low income, special needs, learning disabilities, health impairments, homework challenges, diverse cultures, speech barriers, and more.
The Siemer Milling Company Endowment was established in 2006 for the purpose of providing a permanent source of funding to programs in Effingham County that support the development of young leaders. In 2016, the Siemer Milling Company Endowment awarded $30,000 and to date has awarded $93,800 to nonprofit organizations in Effingham.
