Mattoon High School Alumni and Mattoon community members joined together for a special 24-hour day of giving on Thursday, March 22 and raised $11,396 to establish the Angela McQueen Citizenship Award. Although they did not meet their fundraising goal of $50,000, the committee is moving forward with its plans for the Angela McQueen Citizenship Award. “Thanks to the Community Foundation and the citizens of Mattoon, we will have a new scholarship to honor Angela McQueen. The first recipient will be announced in May 2018,” proclaims David Janssen (MHS Class of 1971), fund advisor of the MHS Alumni Scholarship.
Those donors who gave on March 22 were entered to win prizes throughout the day. Winners include: Tara Blaser, Cindy Stivers, Stephen Janssen, Bob Clark, Susan Smith, Myra Taylor, Elizabeth Hastings, Joe Huddleston, and Greg Fultz. In addition, all donors were entered into a grand prize drawing for a seven-day vacation getaway (sponsored by Dan Pilson, Pilson Auto). The winner of the grand prize drawing was Kris Maleske.
