Applications for the RMT Charitable Trust Scholarship through the Effingham County Community Foundation are now available. This new scholarship award is open to anyone that is a graduate from an Effingham County high school. This includes: St. Anthony, Effingham, Altamont, Beecher City, Teutopolis, and Dieterich High Schools. Applicants must be planning to enroll or be enrolled as a full-time college student in a 2-year college, 4-year college or university, or vocational/technical school. Applicants can be recent high school graduates, returning students, or adults that wish to further their education.
The RMT Charitable Trust Scholarship was established by Tim Niebrugge, the son of Ray and Mary Niebrugge of Green Creek. Ray Niebrugge inherited a tract of land from his father John, and continued to farm the land and reinvesting in the farm by acquiring more acreage through nearly 40 years. Tim continued to farm the ground after his parents passed away until his own death on September 22, 2006. Tim never married and had no children and established this trust to help students with financial need continue their education. The RMT Charitable Trust Scholarship will be awarded for the first time in May 2010. Scholarships will be a minimum of $2,000 each but may be more depending on the financial need demonstrated by the student. The criteria for the scholarship is based on 50% financial need, 25% merit (based on school, community, and personal activities or work experience), and 25% achievement (ACT of SAT scores and school transcripts). The application form can be found on the community foundation’s Website.
Completed applications must be returned to the community foundation by Friday, March 19, 2010. Applications can be mailed to Effingham County Community Foundation, PO Box 1211, Effingham, IL 62401.
