Planning Giving Fund Gives Grant Award

The Mattoon Area Community Foundation is pleased to announce that the first grant of $500 was recently made by the newly established East Central Illinois Planned Giving Education fund. The grant was used to underwrite a workshop for area nonprofit agencies concerning changes to the IRS Form-990 that nonprofits have to file on an annual basis.

Approximately 25 representatives from area nonprofits attended the workshop, which was held at the Mattoon Board of Education office on February 26th. The featured speaker was Larry Johnson of the CPA firm Sikich in Springfield.

“We are glad that we could bring this educational opportunity to the region,” said Amanda Standerfer, Program Director for the Community Foundation. Standerfer noted that there are several significant changes to the Form-990 and that no other workshops to help nonprofits with the changes have been held outside of major metropolitan areas.

The East Central Illinois Planned Giving Education Fund was established with funds from the Planned Giving Information Consortium of East Central Illinois, also known as PGIC. The group was dissolved in December 2008 and established the fund at the Community Foundation to provide resources on planned giving and give opportunities to educate the region about philanthropy and planned giving.
